-the redhead- 's rules
The rules are simple:

#1 No expectations

#2 Actions speak louder than words

#3 You can only count on yourself

It does, of course beg the question. Well, several at any rate.

Why do I feel the need to have these rules in the first place?
How does each rule protect me?
What does each rule protect me from?
What does each rule mean?
Are they good rules or bad rules?

-the redhead-

"just because my cuts have healed into scars doesn't mean I was never hurt in the first place."

More to come...

here's a paraphrase that has served me well:

you need to plan for someone's capabilities, not their intentions

rules suck

I follow those as well, though with expectations I use "Hope for the best, expect the worst."
