Melanie update
I just got a call from Ron, who was unfortunately just called away for a very serious trauma case at another hospital. BUT being the nice guy he is, he has sent someone else to the hosp. to keep an eye on Mel for me. He also checked all the equipment out this morning and made sure that the A Team is on duty in the OR today. The circulating nurse's nickname is 'Momma', and she runs a tight ship *smile*

Mel has just gone up for surgery, as they were running a little late this morning. She is having an Anterior Cervical Discectomy (ACD), which is a straightforward surgery that the Dr. is a pro at and does upwards of 10 times a week. The success rate for this surgery is very high. Here's how it will go:

- small incision in front of neck.
- tissue distraction (move all the tissues to they can get to the important part).
- discectomy, where they remove the damaged discs.
- graft is placed in where disc used to be and is filled with bone from her hip. They are using the state of the art graft.
- cervical plate is screwed into to hold everything together.

Mel will probably receive some immediate relief in her neck, though she will have incision pain in her neck and hip and will have to wear her collar for awhile.

I'll report back when I know more.

Thanks for the update. How're you holding up? I'm sure this is nerve-wracking.
