Today I'm working with 50% 80's merino/30% silk/20% angora for what I would like to eventually be a wedding ring shawl. After a few misstarts and a bunch of fiddling with the tension and take up (I've released the brake completely) on the Schacht, I've gotten my singles down to ~70 wpi with enough twist to hold everything together properly using my Fast Speed whorl at a ratio of 15 1/2:1. This fiber is tremendously soft and light - it's like holding a cloud. It's difficult, however, to spin a cloud *smile* I'm having to be very careful maintaining the integrity of my roving and predrafting is a requirement. This fiber is also forcing me to pay close attention to my drafting as well. I hope to have enough of this spun up to enter at Estes in a few weeks.
It will be a treat to spend the entire day spinning today.
