Weaving updates & becoming a real weaver
I was behind in my weaving this week due to missing class last week and having been out of town. I had gone into the shop earlier this week to get caught up and get some explanation on the reading, but there was no way I was going to get the homework done by class time. Those weaving draft charts made no sense at all until Maggie helped me out, esp. since in our handout the drafts for the table loom and the floor loom were printed in one draft. It's much less confusing to look at one or the other.

I did get my little plainweave samplers, which are going to serve as 'mug rugs' tho they are on the larger side, done and took them to class. They turned out pretty well, and I even received compliments on how nice my edges are. The contrast between the heavyweight cotton and the 3/2 perle cotton was nice. I really like two of the colorways I came up with, so I'm going to make some matching placemats. More easy, low key, plainweave practice will be good for me. Warping practice is a good thing.

The assignment I missed is for twill. Since I'm only using the 3/2 perle cotton I will endeavor to make smaller samplers, which will work a little better as coasters. I need to go back to the shop today and get some more perle cotton for practicing with. I've settled into a few colors I like together, so I'm going to stick with those for the rest of my samplers.

I have a ton of chenille I rec'd from WEBS, so I'm going to try a scarf for mom this weekend as well.

The scary thing is I'm already beginning to think like a real weaver. Like I really needed to start buying Eucalan by the half gallon and yarn by the pound…
