\Chem"is*try\ (k[e^]m"[i^]s*tr[y^]; 277), n. [From Chemist. See Alchemy.]

1. That branch of science which treats of the composition of substances, and of the changes which they undergo in consequence of alterations in the constitution of the molecules, which depend upon variations of the number, kind, or mode of arrangement, of the constituent atoms. These atoms are not assumed to be indivisible, but merely the finest grade of subdivision hitherto attained. Chemistry deals with the changes in the composition and constitution of molecules.

2. An application of chemical theory and method to the consideration of some particular subject; as, the chemistry of iron; the chemistry of indigo.

3. The elements of a complex entity and their dynamic interrelation.

4. Mutual attraction or sympathy; rapport.

The disturbing thing is, try as I might, I cannot explain it. Well, I can to a certain extent. I can justify. I can rationalize. I can be logical and science-minded and say that X, Y, and Z are causitive agents or contributing factors.

But yanno what? None of those things really explain why. They don't add up to what happened. None of them are reason enough for...

Brains. Yes, my number one criteria. They are there. In spades. But there are those who are more intelligent, more witty, more well read, smarter. Just as there are those who are more fit, more charming, more elegant, more dangerous, more handsome, prettier (need to work on that thing for pretty boys). So that, in and of itself, doesn't explain it either. Not even close.

What *is* it that turns one's brain off? That quiets the advice of the sensible person inside my head? That defeats the innate reserve?

Smell? Taste? Touch? Presence? Brains?

All of the above, yet at the same moment none of them.

Why is the magic there with one person, but not another who holds the same qualities?

I hate not being able to explain things, especially to myself.

-the redhead-

Not best looking bloke I've ever clapped eyes on, but then again, not everyone can be brainless pretty boy with big show-off ponytail...

that which science cannot explain, one must call magic.

dive in, or avoid, but explalin? nope :)

magic is rare, explain it, and *poof* gone. then it's mundane.
