100 things other people can know about me

1. I don’t like eggplant – it’s all my mom’s fault.
2. Foods I don’t like are usually texture things – oysters, ice cream with hard bits, okra, etc..
3. I don’t like things that smell like fish – also my mother’s fault.
4. But I really like fish that is well prepared – also lobster and crab claws. Go figure.
5. I’m fairly athletic.
6. I like to read *a lot* and will read just about anything – including the back of cereal boxes. But not Angus Wells books. I am a bookworm.
7. My favorite hero is Dirk Pitt. I was in a complete state of shock when Clive Cussler replaced him with that new guy who’s just a Dirk wannabe.
8. I like horses and rode from the age of 3 to about 23-24. Give me a big horse (16.3 and up) and 5 foot fences *any * day.
9. I used to be able to squat over 4 times my body weight – it was fun to go pick on the boys at the gym.
10. I’m tougher than I look.
11. I’m enjoying learning to fence.
12. I learned to read when I was 2 and grew up on adult books – most notably my dad’s Louis L’amour books.
13. My favorite children’s book is Where the Wild Things Are.
14. I see no reason to talk to children differently than adults, other than perhaps a bit of language censoring. If they don’t understand something then take the time to explain, don’t talk to them like babies.
15. I was teased a lot as a kid for looking so different.
16. I’m trained as a scientist and want to go back to that some day.
17. I think school is school, Yale or not.
18. I can only wear gold jewelry (unless it’s just for a few hours) and that’s a pain in the butt.
19. I’m a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).
20. I eat haggis (obviously it’s the scots/irish blood..).
21. I am a single malt snob – my favorite at the moment is MacCallan 21.
22. I want to get a belly button ring.
23. But I don’t think I’d want to get a tattoo. What would I get? Where would I put it? What if I come to hate it? But my baby brother has very cool tattoos that I admire a great deal.
24. I’ve developed a thing for boys with looong hair lately. Have no idea where it came from. But brains are still more important.
25. I like my men intelligent. After all, what’s the point of spending time with a man you cannot have a decent conversation with?
26. I *love * figure skating and wish I could do it. I can watch it for hours…
27. Redheadedness isn’t just a hair color, it’s a state of mind. Came up with that when I was 14 or so. It’s my favorite ‘me’ quote.
28. I grew up as a young (starting at 9 or 10) child addicted to classic horror movies such as The Mummy, Dracula, etc. Vincent Price is still my favorite actor.
29. As a result I’m afraid of the dark. And spent a significant part of my childhood sleeping on my parents bedroom floor, where it was safe. That’s what happens when the attic door of the 125 year old house opens into your room and you have an overactive imagination.
30. I cannot go see scary movies by myself. Prince of Darkness is the scariest movie ever.
31. I have a very vivid imagination.
32. I don’t like slasher movies.
33. I grew up a good little Catholic schoolgirl. I think I’ve mostly gotten over it tho.
34. I’m smarter than I look too.
35. I wish I had pretty blue or green (or any real color) eyes. Not just plain, boring black.
36. I have the legs, but not the feet, to be a ballerina.
37. My favorite flowers are the big bearded iris. Closely followed by yellow roses.
38. I love living in the West, but I miss all the flowers in the springtime we had back in St Louis – esp. the big beds of iris.
39. I like having a flat stomach, but hate doing crunches.
40. I’m quite shy, actually.
41. I’ve only really broken myself once, but it was a doozy.
42. I’ve been dead (like I said, it was a doozy), so have little fear of it now. No lights, no music, no dead relatives, no one with wings – my mother was quite upset about that part.
43. I understand that chaos and change are necessary. But not always very fun.
44. I was always the ‘smart kid’ and can be fairly geeky.
45. I’ve never owned a car that wasn’t a stick. Tho I did almost pitch my dad thru the window of his automatic once – suffice it to say that wasn’t the nonexistent clutch I hit.
46. I have a very dry sense of humor that many people don’t get. But it can also be hellaciously filthy. Both are my dad’s fault.
47. Nightgowns are wasted on me.
48. I’ve reached the SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy) stage with my fiber stuff.
49. I don’t often wear dangle earrings that make noise. I have a pretty amber set (to go with my favorite necklace) that have tiny gold bells on them, and I resemble nothing more than one of those bobbing-head dogs in the back window of someone’s car when I wear them because I like to listen to the sound. Jingle jingle jingle.
50. Emeralds are my favorite stone. Pretty greeeeen rockssssessssss...
51. I’m bad at math and count on my fingers, but can apply higher level statistical stuff easily.
52. I can only write poetry when I’m intoxicated.
53. I read lips very well.
54. I weep at the sad parts of movies.
55. I can still fit into clothes I wore 10 years ago. Or even 15 years ago.
56. Potatoes are the perfect food.
57. I was really really flattered when that pretty blonde model girl hit on me at Pennsic, even if the whole being in the girls shower house thing was kinda weird. And a little regretful I had to go model that evening and didn’t get a chance to do anything about it.
58. Dark chocolate and raspberry stuffage are a heavenly combination. My most favorite candy ever are dark chocolate covered raspberries from Bissinger’s It’s a dangerous dangerous thing that they will overnight them to me. But a very good thing that they are only in season for 1 month a year – otherwise I would be broke and weigh twice what I do. The fact that that month is near my birthday is dangerous too.
59. Red is my favorite color, but black and green are my favorite colors to wear. So I have a red face on my cell phone, but only own black leather
60. I like having long hair – I just wish it would grow faster.
61. I absolutely hate to go to movies by myself. Movies are a social activity for me, and it’s just not the same if I don’t have someone to comment to and giggle with during the movie, and chat with after the movie.
62. Backrubs are goodness and I tend to turn into a little Redhead puddle if they are done right
63. I like hugs. And have been told I give good hugs.
64. I like both dogs and cats.
65. I tend to pace, or otherwise be in motion.
66. I would like to travel (most especially to the UK, Europe, and the Bahamas), but not by myself.
67. I think going hot air ballooning would be really cool.
68. I was one of the founders of the Women’s Resource Center at CU Boulder. I’m glad to see it’s grown and thrived and continues to contribute to the community.
69. I prefer Simgames and MUDs and the like over first person shooters. Civilization is evil and can take over my afternoon. I wish they would release and updated version of Masters of Magic.
70. I own power tools and know how to use them.
71. Same with the chain saw.
72. I’m a redhead all the way through.
73. I love to cook, but not only for myself. My lasagna requires a turkey roasting pan and the cheesecake (the thick heavy style – mmm) generally weighs in at around 4 – 5 lbs.
74. I don’t consider myself to be an intellectual, but everyone else does *shrug *
75. My favorite painters are Monet and Picasso (mostly Blue Period, not the Cubist stuff). Renoir is good too. I don’t like the modern stuff all that much.
76. I’m much better at being too hot than too cold.
77. I can knit, crochet, needlepoint, cross-stitch, smock, embroider, and spin – all rather well. I want to take weaving classes. Can’t sew worth a damn.
78. I’ve been accused of being ‘reserved’, ‘elegant’, ‘mysterious’, and ‘intimidating’ lately. And then people seem all surprised that I’m not when they get to know me. What’s up with that?
79. I am a perfectionist
80. I just checked – I can still put my foot behind my head.
81. I have loooong-assed legs. 31” inseam.
82. I like middle-eastern dance (aka belly-dancing), and hope to start back up with lessons soon.
83. Reconciling different belief systems isn’t a problem as far as I’m concerned. My premise is that you take what works for you and what is important to/for you because the individual is more important that the system. But it’s up to each individual to make a good life, and that’s tougher if you don’t ‘follow the rules’.
84. I frequently expect competence from other people in areas where I am competent, and am often surprised when they turn out to be less competent than I am.
85. If I had to choose a ‘religion’, I think I’d choose Buddhism. Makes the most sense and has room for everyone.
86. I have a very high pain threshold
87. I like spicy food, but not just hot for the sake of being hot. There has to be some flavor. Kimchi on a thick, juicy, homemade burger right off the grill is heaven. This is my dad’s fault too.
88. I think that my friend Coinneach has the most gorgeous eyes *ever *. I actually have to concentrate on what I’m saying sometimes.
89. I used to sprint and run hurdles in high school. I was the only one of the girls who could 3-step.
90. Heinlein is my favorite author. He understood redheads.
91. Typical lion that I am, I love to stretch out in sunny spots for a nap.
92. I think that paper books are much better than reading things online or ebooks or the like. It’s the weight and feel of the book, the sensation of turning the pages, even the smell of old books. You cannot huddle under the covers with a flashlight or read by candlelight when the power is out with the electronic stuff. Same with letters, tho I rarely get snailmail anymore.
93. I want to learn to speak French. I took French in high school and college, but that’s not the same as actually *learning * it It’s just like studying, yanno? I want to find someone to converse with in French on a regular basis so that I *do * learn it and use it.
94. I don’t make *real * friends very easily.
95. I want to learn how to customize my LJ.
96. I can get lost in the beauty of the autumn leaves or a single daisy; in the magnificence of a sunset over the snow covered peaks; in the simplicity of the nightingale’s song; in the elegance of a single buck at the water’s edge; in the subtle scents of the forest at night...
97. I’ve considered running away to another country for awhile. Which one is open to suggestion and debate.
98. I might have made a new friend this week.
99. I love real lightening/thunder storms.
100. I have periods where I shun electronic communication. At those times email and such just seem too… distant and impersonal. If ya wanna talk to me yer gonna hafta call or come over.

A good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read.

Nothing terribly... earth-shattering(?) I don't think.

Dreams, desires, and most of all... LUSTS!!!

*grins and giggles*
-the redhead-theredhead on January 6th, 2003 07:47 am (UTC)
I don't have those...

I don't believe that for a second... For one thing, I know you have dreams and desires at the very least, or me and everyone I know wouldn't be sending every positive thought we can your way so you can get the house you're after...

As for lusts... I'm not saying that they are often, or that they control you, but you are human... they have to exist somewhere no matter how well you hide them.
