Note to self
This trip has really hardened my resolve to work on my French skills *nod* We manage to do okay, and I'd like to think that I'm not quite as ugly an American as some. But it still frustrates and embarrasses me that I cannot communicate effectively (and without being the reason for tolerant amusement from the locals). Must find someone to work with and purchase some tapes and such.

I can do better and be a more competent foreign traveler than I currently am.

Mmmm.... There seems to be no substitute for actually being on the ground and speaking the language to locals. Classes and such do help, but tend to teach the "formal" ways of speaking (even the more structured tu vs vous).

Being a traveler is all about the learning. As opposed to simply sitting in a charter bus and going "look at the pretty castle"...

Likes just wandering. Need to do a tour of Poland with the brother; he's good about that too.
